Op Art. (1950)

The Op Art is the abbreviation of " Optical Art ", Art Optical, artistic current appeared about the middle of the Fifties. In 1912 Marcel Duchamp represents already the successive moments of a body moving. The C$Op Art restores the movement using purely visual means (without real movement). A whole of geometrical forms and combinations of colors create in the eye of the witness an illusion of movement while playing for example on simultaneous contrast, the shift or the optical mixture of the colors. The artists of the C$Op Art seek to define a new optical space more than to cause a "illusion". Research has jointly not to leave the plan or the relief in weak projection, on which are tested the phenomena of retinal instability generated by the superposition of screens, the programmed repetition of small modular units, and contrasts of values violent one, in particular that of the white and the black. Their works often claim the active participation of the witness, would be this only by its simple displacement. Bridget Riley and Jeffrey Steele in Great Britain, Richard Anuszkiewicz in the United States, the members of groups " N " and " T " in Italy, of the group " Zero " in Germany, take part fully of this tendency. The principal representatives are: Victor Vasarely, Almir Mavignier, Yaacov Agam, Jesus Rafael Soto, Larry Poons, Gene Davis, Frank Stella.Op Art. (1950)
